MiCHAEL R. DEC, CPA, CGMA

• I received my B.S. in Accounting from Le Moyne College. Prior to forming Dec & Benson with Cathy, I worked in the audit and tax departments for three very established but different regional CPA firms prior starting my own tax practice in 2010. 

• In addition to the tax practice,  I also worked as the controller for various large and medium sized companies while maintaining a part-time tax and accounting practice before finally expanding the firm to a full-time accounting, tax and consulting practice in January 2013.

• While many accountants decide to specialize in either Audit, Tax, or Private Accounting, I decided to focus my career on obtaining experience in all three areas. The end result of this synergy of knowledge in the private and public sector has helped my clients manage their businesses, understand the financial statements , the needs of external users, and maintain compliance at Federal & State tax levels while maximizing tax savings.

• During my years in private accounting, I worked on launching several new businesses with my skills in budgeting, tax planning, and projections. As the CFO,  I helped Synapse Partners, LLC, and its affiliates grow into one of the largest property and casualty insurance wholesalers in the United States.

• In addition to my own tax return practice of 800 clients. I have worked with and advised small and start-up businesses, as well as medium to large businesses in the areas of organization, monthly accounting, taxes, business opportunity analysis and planning.  I specialize in real estate ,collectibles, and high net worth individuals.  I also manage my own real estate rental portfolio.   I love supporting local family owned businesses like my own.

• I have lived in Central New York my whole life.  My wife and I have been blessed to have a son and a daughter that are starting to work in the business.  I enjoy spending time outdoors with them in my free time and collect retro video games.
